13 Post-Christmas Fitness DVDs
Thursday, December 20th, 2007In Britain we have a tradition of pigging out during Christmas and then making plans to exercise off the extra pounds during the new year. The diet and fitness industry fills that need with new fitness videos which are usually released on Boxing Day and tend to feature soap or reality show stars.
Here’s a selection of fitness DVDs which will be released next week in the UK.
1. Natalie Cassidy’s Then And Now Workout
“Actress Natalie Cassidy stars in her own exercise title, demonstrating how she lost two and a half stone.”
–
“Bollywood superstar [and Celebrity Big Brother star] Shilpa Shetty presents this guide to the yoga routines that keep her curvaceous, calm and focused.”
–
3. WAGS Workout
[A "WAG" is a footballer's wife or girlfriend.] “WAGS WORKOUT is the must have accessory for all girls wanting to achieve the look and style of a WAG - and who knows, they may even bag themselves a footballer in the process!”
–
4. Nell McAndrew’s Cardio, Core & Stretch
Nell was the first British woman to be a Playboy cover model, she’s a successful glamour and mainstream model, and has completed a couple of marathons. This isn’t her first fitness video, and hers are known to be hard workouts!
–
“AMERICAN IDOL judge and one-time pop starlet Paul Abdul presents this informative guide to keeping fit though cheerleading routines.”
–
“Trisha Goddard the Queen of talk television launches her very first fitness DVD to co-inside with her 50th birthday!” [I'd thought she'd turned fifty a few years ago... that's showbiz for you!]
–
7. Samanda, The Twins - Dance Workout
[This one sounds like hell to me - these girls found fame on last summer's Big Brother UK.]
“Yes that’s right folks…the bubbly and much-loved twosome of Samanda are starring in their very own Fitness DVD!! Dance Workout promises to be the most fun and energetic dance-based workout around, in what the twins themselves describe as a really girly soundtrack to work up a sweat too! Perfect for real, every day girls who want to get fit, AND have fun, just like Sam and Amanda!!! The workout comprises of two core programmes - a fresh and fun dance aerobics section and a funky box aerobics session (along with a warm up and cool down chill out zone). Both programmes have been carefully devised to be manageable yet effective in fat burning and body toning. Exercise is far from boring with the twins bound to get you laughing and dancing away those pounds in a pink and girly experience you never thought could be so enjoyable!!”
–
8. Danielle Lloyd - Keep Fit, Look Fit
“KEEP FIT, LOOK FIT is a fun way of shedding those unwanted holiday pounds as you treat your body to a full cardiovascular workout. On hand to keep you motivated are personal trainer Steve Rich, celebrity fitness instructor Troy Dureh, and of course, former Miss England, Danielle Lloyd.” [Of course, they didn't mention that she was stripped of her Miss England title for sleeping with one of the judges... and I haven't even mentioned her disgraceful behaviour on Celebrity Big Brother.]
–
“This sensational workout, inspired by the movie, is designed to help improve muscle tone, flexibility, burn calories and so aid in losing weight; all done to an amazing soundtrack in a fun and energetic workout.”
–
“Former CASUALTY actress Rebecca Wheatley demonstrates the workout that led to her losing an amazing 12 stone in weight.”
[By the way, 12 stone = 168 pounds or 76.2 kg, so it's a tremendous achievement to lose that much weight.]
–
11. Pineapple Studios: Everybody Dance - Street Divas
“Everybody Dance: Street Divas is a strong and sexy dance class in which you will be taught full routines to three of the hottest pop hits and then watch them in full performance by The Pineapple Dance Troupe.
Street Divas offers the best dance instruction, with an emphasis on great Warm Up and Cool Down exercises to funky music, which can be used as effective exercise routines on their own.”
–
12. Rosemary Conley - Brand New You! Work-Out With Coleen Nolan
“Rosemary Conley presents an exercise title aimed at people attempting to slim down. Features Coleen Nolan, who lost over three stone by following Rosemary Conley’s advice.” [I actually met Rosemary Conley at a business exhibition last year; she looked much smaller that she does on television.]
–
13. Ministry Of Sound: Pump It Up - Dancemix
“Ministry of Sound will release a brand new dance workout DVD on 26th December to help shift those post-Xmas pounds! Pump It Up: Dancemix features three of Ministry of Sound’s sexiest, super-fit video girls and Take That choreographer Gareth Walker.”
[This one and number 11 are probably the only DVDs I would personally purchase out of this list. I've enjoyed the other Pump-It-Up workout DVDs in the past, but looking at the video preview, this one looks like ultra cheesy fun...]

Christmas isn’t even here and my pig out has begun…I’ll need a few of those pronto! LOL!
My probably worst ever TT is up, I tried.
5:04 pm on 20-Dec-07
I can’t possibly even THINK about exercise with a 16 pound turkey in the fridge and plans for way too much food. By the time this is over, I’ll be a little butterball who can’t bend over far enough to touch her knees, let alone toes. My husband will have to put my shoes and socks on for me. Also, I tend to collect exercise DVD’s more as a hobby than an actual intention to work out. Cheers!
7:00 pm on 20-Dec-07
I’ll stick to the gym, thanks. That way, I know I’m not sinking money into a video with music I can’t stand.
10:46 pm on 20-Dec-07
I am thinking I need those workouts now!
11:01 pm on 20-Dec-07
Some of the descriptions are pretty funny: “Exercise is far from boring with the twins bound to get you laughing and dancing away those pounds in a pink and girly experience you never thought could be so enjoyable!!” I can just imageine tv ads, the announcer with that fake overly gleeful kind of tone that would probably want to make me want to smash the tv set to bits. On that note, happy TT!

That’s too funny! You know, I’d use workout videos, but by the time I get halfway through, I can’t stand the music, and so I have to hit mute or rip out my eardrums. And at that point, you lose part of the workout experience. I pretty much just stick to my bizarre dancing to my iPod and cleaning up after my toddler. Does just fine by me.
Thanks for dropping by my blog!
OMG, I just noticed that it’s snowing on your page! Haha. How cool is that!

Just reading about all that fitness has worn me out. I need to sit down and have a cup of tea.

#2 - was she the one who caused that reality tv controversy?
#5 - She can barely sit up straight, how on earth can she lead aerobics?
Happy belated TT and thanks for stopping by!

Hi all, thanks for commenting.
Madam Meow: glad you liked the snow.
Susan Helene: thanks for clearing that up.
Nicholas: lol
Mommychicky: Shilpa was the victim of bullying on Celebrity BB, and has received death threats after being kissed publicly by Richard Gere.
Did you say that Paula Abdul is a troubled soul?
SamuraiF: it’s okay - you’re just a man, with the usual weaknesses.
Laurence: Salut! These videos are mainly British, so I wouldn’t expect people in other countries to know them. Glad you liked my blog, I’ll definitely visit yours again and practice my French!
