busy busy!

Had another busy day at work. We had a party for the new students, which was really busy. I was left to serve loads of students by myself at the beginning, but I grabbed a student to assist me. I’m resourceful, if nothing else.

Linda and Alvin quickly got tipsy, which was funny at first, but pretty tedious after a while. It’s quite boring to converse with someone who is tipsy/drunk as they think they are being really lively when really they are simply being inane. Aren’t I a boring old woman?!

I’m thinking of signing up for another online writing course to give me the impetus to get writing again. I did a couple last summer, which I really enjoyed, but I tried a Novel Writing course earlier this year and ended up quitting after a few weeks because I was overwhelmed by the demands of the course. Not only do you have to submit your assignments, you also are expected to read and critique the other students’ work, which can be quite a serious commitment too. I was also confused about my novel idea (I still am actually).

Maybe focusing on short stories will be a good move for me for now. It would be great to get a few stories published to increase my confidence before going for a novel. I think I’ll probably end up using a pseudonym or two in order to write in different genres, as I can’t choose any particular genre (as usual). Literary, crime, romance, chick-lit, adventure – my stories will encompass any of those categories. I guess I need to just do it now!

Another spider in my room last night. It was a big one. My mum got rid.

Had a rough day at work. First day of enrolment. I feel so unhappy there.

I am of few words tonight.

Adieu.

An expensive weekend

Sunday, September 24th, 2006 | Posted in Uncategorized

Spent a lot of money yesterday. I’ve been to scared to tally up the total spend, but I’ll do it for you now:
Cactus and lucky bamboo from the florist – £5

Trouser suit – £53
Hair conditioning heat cap – £31.99
Hairdryer – £29.99
More assorted clothes – £107
2 bags from French market – £40
2 necklaces from French market – £12
Total spend: £278.98! (US $529 approx.)

Damn! That’s the most I’ve spent in a day since the Platinum earring episode! I’m going to assuage my guilt by returning a couple of shirts that didn’t look quite right when I tried them on.

Haven’t done much other than that this weekend. Back to work tomorrow, and it’s going to be a nightmare week. Another of the lecturers had a go at me on Friday – he was being completely unreasonable so I asked my manager to sort him out.

bloody knackered!!!

Work is really hectic right now and as usual I’m getting all the hassle. I’ve been racking up loads of overtime in order to get things done.

I’m getting raccoon eyes – I can feel the dark circles forming as I type this sentence. Somebody help me!

A decent-looking guy approached me on my way home. I turned him down without even looking at him properly. It’s like an automatic response. He was a bit too over-confident though; a smidgeon of self-doubt doesn’t do any harm. I’m not ready for romance anyway – I have too much self-doubt…

the insects are attacking!

A massive spider invaded my room this evening. It was as big as my hand, well, almost. I had to call my dad to get rid of it. What gives? Did I put up a neon sign advertising my bedroom as a haven for all creatures with 2 or more legs/wings?

Had a productive day at work. Acted like an office manager for once. I feel so cheap writing that, like I pimped myself out to the lords of capitalism. Okay, not quite.

I got myself an Easyrest footrest, which arrived today after a 2 week wait. It complements my Ikea writing chair (pictured), so I have a nice little writing corner now. I just need to start writing already!
