Blog Action Day

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Today is Blog Action Day, a day for bloggers to unite in order to raise awareness about the environment.

Here are a few easy tips which will help all of us to reduce our personal impact on the environment:

  • Don’t leave non-essential appliances on standby for long periods of time. That little red light is telling you that you’re wasting precious energy.
  • Turn the heating down by one degree, and put on an extra layer of clothing instead.
  • Don’t boil more water in the kettle than you need. Also don’t wash just half a load of clothing in your washing machine.
  • Use energy-saving lightbulbs.
  • Recycle as much as you can: paper, cans, glass. My family has halved our household waste by using our local recycling facilities.
  • Give your old books and clothes to charity shops if they’re in good order.
  • Fly as little as possible. Use the train if you can.

I am going to double the revenue from the following (rather naughty) sponsored video about climate change for a donation to WWF.

What are you going to do to reduce your carbon footprint?

UPDATE: £22 (US$20.30 x 2) donated to WWF.

Oh the video cracked me up! :-) But it makes a valuable and sobering point. Good job for posting it, PJ!
