Adopt an Actor: Brian Thompson

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

Splotchy has pioneered a new blogging initiative which involves adopting an actor (preferably a character actor, one of those guys who play minor roles in so many different shows).

I’ve never had a pet, but I guess that this would be rather like looking after a plant or sponsoring a kid in Africa (without the expenditure). What’s that saying: Give a man a fish and he eats for a day; give an actor some promotion on your blog and he eats forever? (Or something like that…)

Anyway, my chosen actor is Brian Thompson, a very prolific character actor.

Brian Thompson

You may have seen that face before in the following television shows/movies:

The Terminator (Evil Arnie nicked his clothes and kicked his ass.)
Moonlighting
Knightrider
Three Amigos!
Falcon Crest
Alien Nation
Fright Night Part 2
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Walker, Texas Ranger
Hercules: The Legendary Journeys
(Though he played Goth the Barbarian in this series, he later played Hercules in Jason and the Argonauts)
Weird Science
Kindred: The Embraced
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Mortal Kombat: Annihilation
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
(This is where I first noticed him; he played Luke in the first two episodes, then The Judge in Season 2.)
NYPD Blue
Baywatch
VIP
The X-Files
Charmed
(He also played two different characters in Charmed.)
NCIS (I was so happy to see him in one of my favourite shows.)
Enterprise

Whether you need an evil thug, an intimidating demon, or a noble hero, Thompson’s your man.

He was nominated in the Razzie Awards for Worst New Star and Worst Supporting Actor in 1986 for a film called Cobra, but without even seeing the film I am going to blame his co-star Stallone for infecting the entire production with his stinky acting.

Brian’s a classically-trained actor, and is 6ft3 of pure muscle. Would you expect anything less from my pet? Isn’t he yummy?

According to IMDB, he has just finished a film that sounds like the perfect successor to Snakes on a PlaneFlight of the Living Dead: Outbreak on a Plane - I’ve gotta see that one!

And of course, here’s that essential slideshow:

    Congratulations!

I saw Cobra, and can tell you the movie’s badness squarely rests at the feet of Sylvester Stallone, lot your adopted actor.

I remember many of the roles you have cited, but some I had forgotten.

I had forgotten he was on Buffy The Vampire Slayer — now that I think of it he played one of the Master’s henchmen in the first season, as well as the Judge in the second season.

    Good choice!
