Apart from the randomness of being lucky, many of the successful people have some common habits that help them become who they are. Many of us start our day with a cup of coffee or checking our emails but that is exactly what highly successful people don’t do. Learning and employing these habits in your life helps you grow in leaps and bounds.

For great focus, clarity and productivity here are some of the commonly cited morning habits of highly successful people:

1.Get Rid Of The Alarm Clock

Highly successful people don’t set alarms to wake up in the morning. This list includes Amazon CEo Jeff Bezos, Oprah Winfrey and Ariana Huffington. In her wellness diary Oprah writes that she never believed in alarms and has trained her mind and her dogs to wake her up between 6:02 – 6:20am. According to the National Sleep Foundation, the word alarm in of itself has a negative connotation to it. Sudden noise distresses the body and creates an awareness of danger in your surroundings. Beginning your day in a manner that startles your body isnt a very good way.

2.Dont Go Straight For Coffee

Grabbing that cup of coffee first thing in the morning may seem like a good logical choice but to the contrary health experts say “ water is better”. After going several hours without water, a single serving of water can revitalize your organs and aid your digestion. Water is an essential element for your muscles and tissues to kick start the day. It not only helps your body but also helps you prepare for the day with positive thoughts

3.Get Your Body Moving

Morning groove is the way to go. Many successful people do some form of morning exercise or meditation to get them into the morning groove. Exercise produces endorphins “ the happy hormones”. These help you not only have a healthy body but also cultivate great mental health. Microsoft CEO, Bill Gates goes as far as watching educational DVDs while exercising. Exercising is hands down the best thing to start your day with.

4.Eliminate Decision Making

Most of the time the best start to your morning is planning it the night before. Many successful people spend their evening getting ready for the next day. One way to do this suggested by American Express CEO Kenneth Chenault is to write three things you want to accomplish the next day. Creating a to do list the night before not only helps you gain some certainty over the following day and results in greater work life balance.

5.Self Reflection

Self reflection in the morning can set you up for an entire day of success. The late Steve Jobs was a huge endorser of this practice. Too often without realizing we spend our days on autopilot away from our core values, beliefs and passions. Steve jobs had one simple question every morning: If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do What I am about to do? If the answer was No for too many days, it’s an indication that something needs to change.

Setting the tone for your day with consistent morning habits gets more productive days under your belt. The good news for people who are on their way to being successful is that these habits can be cultivated with conscious effort. Follow the tips above and with a little practice and work, you will achieve success higher than before
