FlashForward Void

Monday, December 7th, 2009

Every Monday night for the last 10 weeks, I’ve prepared myself in anticipation of the next instalment of FlashForward. Now it’s on hiatus until the new year, and I’m not sure what to do with myself for the next hour.

I may end up rewatching the previous 10 episodes to remind myself of all the various plot threads, and to giggle at all the silly bits. I’m interested in seeing how the stories will unravel, and whether any of the essential questions will be answered by the end of this season.

I’m also interested in the show’s exploration of determinism vs free will, and the eternal question about whether knowing the future could cause it to happen (as in the myth of Oedipus). While several characters in the show have embraced their FlashForwards and are working towards making them come true, others have been resistant to their FFs, or concerned about not having one.

I don’t know about you, but I’d love to have a sneak peek into my life in 6 months time. I don’t even know what I’ll be doing this weekend.

I’ve got to share this video that someone made featuring the moment when Mark Benford finally admitted that he was drunk in his FlashForward. I love the look of disbelief on his boss’s face. The rest of the vid is okay, but I would have liked to add some of the other mental moments of the series so far, like Mark chasing after the guys in Halloween masks or the Blue hand death fest.

I haven’t seen this yet – it isn’t showing on any of my cable channels – but I’m intrigued by it.

As to knowing what my life might be like 6 months on, I’ve mixed feelings about it – what if it’s something I wouldn’t want to know?

What if I was going to be dead in three months? What would my flash forward be? Scary, for one thing…

My boss is always using the expression “What if Bob got hit by a bus?” :???: when she wants to make a point about contingency plans (she doesn’t always use me as an example, though) within her department. I think I’d like to know about that happening so I could avoid it

Hey Capt, FF is showing on channel 5 here – I’m not sure if you have that channel over there. The dilemma that you described is explored in the show, and it’s a very scary situation indeed.

You’ve just reminded me of a story that someone told me about an old guy with dreadlocks who always sat in a certain seat in a cafe – all day every day for years. Then one day he apparently left the cafe without a word. A few minutes later a bus crashed into the cafe – it would have definitely hit him if he’d stayed in his seat. I wonder if he’d had a flashforward…

    Where’s that cafe?

I could set up there and work remotely – the chances of another bus crash there must be astronomical

As to Channel 5 – we can get it, but only with Sky or a Freeview satellite box. I have NTL cable, who offer a different selection

But the idea that someone cheated death like that is weird – like you hear about someone deciding not to fly because of ‘a feeling’ and the plane goes down.

It’s like déja vu – only in advance or something.

My mum always knows who’s calling when the phone rings – I’ve been in the room and she’ll say

“Oh, that’ll be Marie,” and sure enough…

My sister can do it as well, but she has Caller ID, so that doesn’t count

No idea, Capt. It’s probably an urban myth.
