Is there any point in continuing?
Sunday, November 25th, 2007I decided to pass the time by watching Planet of the Apes (the Marky Mark remake), but about an hour in I was interrupted by a phonecall. Now I can’t bring myself to continue watching. Does it get better later? Marky Mark is nice to watch, so I may still try to carry on for his sake. I find myself being irritated by Helena Bonham Carter’s character, though I can’t explain why. When I saw Kris Kristofferson with his unkempt locks I immediately thought of him as Whistler in Blade… (wasn’t he a country singer back in the day? Kris, not Whistler – though that’d be a cool name for a country singer…).
I should probably go to bed. Or eat some porridge (AKA oatmeal). I’ve been feeling very unsettled today. I woke up early (10:30am) then went back to bed for a few hours at 2pm, then I went to Croydon. Then I came home.
More thoughts in the morning.

No, give up.
It’s a bad movie, with a worse ending.

Thanks Splotchy. I had some problems with my net connection and thought that this post hadn’t been published. So I became disheartened and decided to go back to the movie… and it was bad, though I enjoyed the documentary at the end about the makeup and direction, etc. Saturday nights are made for dodgy blockbusters, so I’m not too mad (I knew it had bad reviews).

Yes, the remake is pretty uneven, (Danny Elfman’s score is pretty good) The ending still hasnt been explained yet.

It never did get any better, you’re right. The Helena Bonham Carter thing was a matter I think of having a relatively attractive ape to make us feel all creepy.

I’m still wondering what happened to Daena’s (Estella Warren) babyfather?
I cringed when he kissed HBC, then snogged the blonde.
And the ending was apparently supposed to allow the possibility of a sequel. It’s like Donnie Darko all over again, where countless theories have been proposed about alternate/parallel universes, time-travel and how Thade might have somehow either a) travelled to earth before humans were the dominate species and taken over, or b) single-handedly overthrown modern-day humans and recreated our society for the super-apes, or c) escaped the ship and took over the planet again and using the technology which Mark provided started a new civilization in his own image…

Let me put it like this…
